Our weaning journey so far..Weaning is such a difficult time for us mums and dads as there is so much pressure on doing it from 6 months and if you did it before then you was classed as bad parent🤷🏼♀️
When my mum was taking care of us 4 kids she did it around 4/5 months old. Yes that’s a while ago and times change but every mother knows their child and what they can or can’t do.
Me and my husband decided to start weaning at 5 months because we wanted to.
It wasn’t like we gave her a roast dinner or 3 meals a day, we simple did 1 spoonful of carrot purée – which she hated 😂
So we knew she wasn’t quite ready.
Few days later we decided to try cow and gate porridge in the morning rather than the evening as she seamed more up for trying in the day, we did one ice cube size portion and used tommee tippee spoons as they were very flexible and a great shape.
The question I get a lot it way start at 5 months?
My reply is simply this.
1. Help her get used to the texture and feel of the food.
2. To get her used to the spoon and to push her tongue down.
3. sitting in a high chair.
4. A bit of fun for her, new feels, flavours and smells.
Basically after 1 week of doing 1 ice cube of porridge for breakfast she actually started to swallow the food rather than push it out with her tongue.
So after she used to finish the ice cube pot we would add more each day and then by week 2 she was eating at least 5 mouthfuls of porridge.
So then I started to introduce lunch bits.
I bought the Ella’s kitchen Tomato and meal puffs and the strawberry and banana ones.
I wanted to do a bit of both BLW and purées as finger food is such good fun!
So I gave her one of the puffs to try and she loved it, knew what to do with it straight away sucked it, turned it around, moved from hand to hand. It was a big hit and still are now!
We then tried petits filous for a pudding and she ate the whole lot! I did double check my with health visitor and she said that it was ok as long as it was no more than one a day.
We did breakfast and lunch for another week then started to add dinner.
We used hipp organic, heinz and cow and gate jars/pouches.
We started off with half a pouch/jar. I would pop the kettle on while that was boiling i would pop her in the high chair, squeeze out half the pouch into her bowl and then pop the bowl on top of the bowl with the boiled water to heat it up, I didn’t like to use the microwave as it causes hot spots and when she was hungry I’d rather give it to her like warm while it’s still heating up.
By 6 months she was on 3 meals a day and eating the lot.
I am glad I weaned at 5 months cause it took a whole month for her to actually eat anything it was more playing and getting used to things.
She’s now 7 months and she eats a whole bowl or porridge or has toast/crumpets at breakfast.
Lunch time she will have half a pouch of food, pasta and sauce, fruit, vegetables or just whatever I have depends if we are out.
Dinner she was will have half a pouch but while it’s heating she will have kiddylicious vegetable straws or Ella’s kitchen puffs and then a pudding either yoghurt or Heinz biscotti.
Just thought I’d pop a video up from the first time she was waiting to try food😂
Phoebes favourite breakfast from 5 and a half months old and still is now at 7 months old.

First time trying the Ella’s kitchen puffs!

Loves marmite on toast!

So by the 20th of September which was was just over 6 months old she was eating her meals so well!🙌🏼
I don’t regret starting early as I didn’t just give her what I had or 3 meals a day I can not simplify it enough it was a ONE spoonful a day for 2 weeks then when she hit 5 and a half months we introduced a bit more each day and by 6 months she was a right foodie!
She was still having 20oz of milk a day in between food. I was told food before milk some of my friends who had babies before me say milk before food. But phoebe is not that interested in her milk and will prefer food over it😂
I still get at least 16/18oz in her a day and I told the health vistor and she said as long as you keep up with the cheese and dairy intake it doesn’t matter if she’s dropped a few oz she said a few of her clients baby’s dropped to like 12oz a day because they just point blank refused to drink it 😂
Phoebe is bang smack on her centile line🙌🏼 last time we got her weighed she was 15lb 6oz! I’m sure she’s slightly more but the health vistor said it slows down when they start to roll around and do more things.
She’s a happy little soul and she’s a right foodie last weekend she had her first homemade roast.

My little foodie💖
Products I have bought so far are..

Use these products daily 🙌🏼💕
Just remember you no your child better than anyone if you want to wean at 5 months do it. If you want to wait till they are 6/7/8 months do it it’s all up to you and your baby at the end of the day.
I wouldn’t ever recommend any younger than 4 months because 1 they don’t need food second don’t forget their Tummy’s are still very small!
We have had such fun weaning and their is plenty of posts on my Instagram and different food ideas I have posted! So please check them out on there as well💕
That’s the start of our weaning journey
